Living Simply Lavender Hydrosol – The origin of our product, we know that during the 1700s (may go back further) knowledge of the distillation process together with the use of the distillate were passed down through one side of our maternal ancestors’ side. Their rural farming roots originating in and around the wider areas of the Tywi Valley, Carmarthenshire. Herbal plant material was used for producing what the family called “Cordial” (not as beverages we know today). The word came from an old meaning, pertaining to cardiac or heart, the “cordial” would work on “craidd yr achos” in Welsh – referring to the centre, heart or core of the cause, issue or problem depending on the ailment. The herbal Cordial provided benefits and remedies for the skin which they used on themselves and when necessary, their animals. Today Hydrosol is a word introduced by American aromatherapists during the 1990s (a practise which appeared long after our ancestors time). Hydrolat or hydrosol can only be produced from the distillation process and should not be confused or compared with floral waters. 

Our lavender Lavandula Angustifolia and Lavandin x intermedia cultivars are grown in our field, outside Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.  During the summer months carefully harvested flowering spikes are hydro steam distilled, condensed steam cooled to liquid is collected as the oil is separated out, the aromatic liquid plant distillate known as hydrolat contain potent hydrophilic, micro particles of oils and polar molecules from the plant. Hydrolat is light and gentler than the essential oil allowing it to be used “as is” directly on the body and face. Annual samples of our hydrosol undergo both scientific analysis and mandatory cosmetic safety analysis at independent labs. Our products are Cosmetics Product Safety Compliant and are listed on the UK Government Cosmetics Portal.
